I’m currently working partly as site manager and partly as an integration consultant at Tieto. The BizTalk platform has been my friend for many years and versions up to the current one. I’ve been working with BizTalk since those early days in 2001 and I’ve experienced every single version of the platform by being a developer and by migrating those solutions as well between the releases.
My experience is that you’ll always need a strategy in order to solve the integration issues coming up, thus I start every project by reviewing the current integration strategy. If there is no such thing, I’ll create a simple one with some simple guidelines to follow in order to create a maintainable and sustainable integration solution platform in the future. For example is the area of artifact naming in a BizTalk solution of uttermost importance when it comes to maintainability – the maintenance cost will be lowered if you design a good naming convention rule or guideline.
Finally I also find that track and trace functionality is a very important aspect, especially when it comes to building up confidence in an integrated environment where the systems hand over control to another party. Integrated processes spanning multiple systems have to be in sync, messaging going wrong must be easy to correct and restart in order to resume normal operations. And that’s why I think BizTalk360 will be an important part of a reliable and trusted integration platform.
